More information about the property

Sotheby's Int. Realty Czech Republic offers for sale the Chateau Kundratice located in the village of the same name in Šumava in the so-called of "oat barons" region, where the local nobility lived from the possession of large agricultural and forest plots and built representative properties near their holdings. The history of the Chateau itself dates back to 1684, when the first mentions of a fortress with a brewery at this location appear. The Chateau was rebuilt to its present form around 1840 with a Renaissance style ground floor and an Empire floor. In the second half of the 19th century, the Chateau was purchased by the prominent Czech banker and majority shareholder of Melantrich publishings František Hašek, who hosted many important personalities of the time here, including presidents T.G. Masaryk or E. Beneš. After the tragic death of F. Hašek, who was executed by the Nazis for refusing to sell his share in the Melantrich, which was publishing among other things České Slovo, in order to prevent the spread of Nazi propaganda, the Chateau passed to his son, who, unfortunately could no longer return from the USA after the communist coup and the Chateau was thus nationalized. In 1992, the Chateau and the grounds were returned to Eliška Hašková-Coolidge, who advocated for its subsequent repair and maintenance. The historical chapel of St. Antonín was unfortunately demolished in 1977 by the communist.

The entire area consists of the chateau building itself, an agricultural building, stables and a guest house with an adjacent barn. These buildings form an enclosed courtyard decorated with a historic fountain. This is followed by a natural landscape park with a size of 1 ha. The Chateau also includes a modern barn near the Chateau and more than 67 ha of surrounding agricultural land classified mainly as permanent grassland.

The Chateau itself has been renovated since the 90s of the last century, when the intention was to adapt it again for family living. It has a kitchen and dining room for up to 30 people, 15 living rooms and 5 utility rooms. The guest house, with a classic layout including a kitchen, living room, 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, was also renovated.
