Czech Republic Sotheby's Int. Realty exclusively offers for sale a unique 15th century townhouse with a unique atmosphere and genius loci, located in the heart of the royal mining town of Kremnica, Žiar nad Hronom district. The property is located directly on Štefánik Square (5 min. walk from the Kremnica Town Castle), which has always been the central part of the town, where public life took place and the houses of the most important townsmen lined it.
History
Kremnica is one of the medieval towns which, in the times of its greatest glory, was the focus of attention of the rulers who tried to conquer and seize it for its rich gold mines. Historians believe that gold and silver were mined here as early as the 10th century, but the real boom did not come until the early 14th century. In 1328, King Charles Robert of Anjou of Hungary granted it the privileges of a free royal mining and coinage town. He established a mint here, whose gold ducats, the so-called florins, were among the most valuable and sought-after coins in Europe. The Kremnica mint is one of the oldest mints of its kind in the world, which is still in continuous operation today. In 2011, it became part of the European Cultural Heritage.
