We are pleased to present Undercurrent, an exhibition by Czech visual artist Veronika Manukjan, whose work exists at the intersection of structural painting, monochrome, and minimalist expression. Her relief-based paintings connect the principles of Zen philosophy with the aesthetics of wabi-sabi, resulting in works that enter into a subtle dialogue with light, space, and the viewer themselves.

Undercurrent shifts attention away from the visible and toward what is essential. In a time that constantly drives us toward performance, overstimulation, and the construction of a flawless outward image, the exhibition offers the opposite: stillness, focus, and a return to what remains beneath the surface. Rather than demanding attention through additional visual stimuli, it opens a space for quieter and deeper perception.
“It does not seek beauty in what is immediately visible or overtly pleasing, but instead focuses on inner stability and the silence hidden beneath the layers of everyday life.”
In her work, the artist engages with monochromatic surfaces and organic structures inspired by nature. Within them emerges a metaphor for inner stability, grounding, and forces that may not be visible at first glance, yet hold the whole together. Light and time also play an essential role. As daylight shifts throughout the day, the character of each work changes with it. In this way, the viewer becomes part of the present moment and more acutely aware of its delicacy and transience.
There is also a distinct sense of feminine sensitivity present in Veronika Manukjan’s paintings, not as a sign of fragility, but as a source of inner strength, tension, and quiet energy. In this sense, Undercurrent stands in deliberate contrast to the speed and materialism of the contemporary world. It offers a space for pause, calm, and a return to one’s own essence.

Veronika Manukjan is a Czech visual artist whose work focuses on structural painting, monochrome, and the relationship between light, matter, and space. In her works, she explores the tension between surface and inner essence, between the visible and the hidden. Her practice is defined by a reduced visual language, relief structure, and a sensitive dialogue with architecture and the viewer. Veronika Manukjan’s works are part of private collections both in the Czech Republic and abroad, including in New York, Los Angeles, Madrid, London, and Paris.
